Canadian Tax Foundation releases updated treatise on taxation of private corporations.

New edition addresses significant changes to tax rules

CANADA – June 23 – The Canadian Tax Foundation is proud to announce the release of the fifth edition of Taxation of Private Corporations and Their Shareholders, published by the Foundation and co-authored by BDO Canada LLP and Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP. This work is a unique and valuable resource for tax professionals who provide advice on the complex tax legislation affecting private corporations. The new edition, thoroughly updated, features comprehensive guidance on a decade’s worth of tax law change.

Since the last edition of this text was published, sweeping legislative changes have been enacted in the area of tax planning for private corporations. The updated text provides detailed analysis of, and insights into, a broad range of subjects, including the implications of the extensive amendments (such as the new tax on split income) introduced in 2018. Additional areas of focus include the purchase and sale of a business and the tax-effective structuring of a business.

The publication is the result of the combined expertise, dedication, and collaborative effort of the Foundation and the contributing tax professionals from Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP and BDO Canada.

“It was a pleasure to work with the dedicated professionals at BDO Canada LLP and Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP on the fifth edition of Taxation of Private Corporations and Their Shareholders,” said Heather L. Evans, Executive Director and CEO of the Foundation. “We are excited to share this timely and insightful treatise, and we are confident that tax practitioners will find it a trusted, comprehensive, and invaluable resource.”

The new edition of Taxation of Private Corporations and Their Shareholders  is available in two distinct formats: (1) in traditional book form and (2) in TaxFind, as part of the Foundation’s online research collection.
